Welcome

In March 2018 I began copying the Bible for myself to know God better. I never expected that what started as a private offering to my Lord would become such a rich source of strength and hope in my life. It is now 2022 and the last few years have been crazy and overwhelming for everyone. However, during this time of uncertainty the Lord has used this activity as a stabilizing force in my life. I started this blog to share this amazing hope with you!

Come and share in this journey with me. It doesn’t matter if you have never read the Bible or have been studying it for years. I intend to share some of the incredible lessons God has taught me through his word. Also, I will give you some practical advice on how to start your journey of finding hope in the scripture.

I see this amazing journey taking the rest of my life and into eternity. I am excited for you to join me as we seek the hope found in God’s amazing love for us in the truth found in the Bible!

Jacob struggles with God In my previous post we discussed how God changes the names of his people when he wants to use them. Today we will look at another name change in scripture. Names in scripture are very important. Parents selected names based on what was happening at the time or what they hoped for a child. We still see this today as we scour the baby name book for meanings so we can pick just the right name for our baby. (This seems strange to us, but was the...

Literature types in scripture include narrative, poetry, law, prophecy and history. The book of Genesis falls into the narrative category. This is fairly easy reading for us because it is like reading a story. However there are parts of the Biblical narrative that are challenging for us to read. We encounter one type in Genesis 4 & 5– the first genealogy. When I first encountered a genealogy in scripture I...
  • Genesis 1:1 In the Beginning
These are Bible’s first words, so it seems fitting that Genesis is where I started copying the text. The creation account in Genesis is a story that I had read so many times. Unfortunately this familiarity caused me to skim over it and not really read every word. As I copied the text I had to slow down and observed some things that I never noticed before. Context Matters The...
